Absence makes the heart grow fonder. It’s true. As she sits on the terrace of the cafe in which they met, it becomes a reality for her. A gentle breeze blows stirring up the leaves that once lay dormant at her feet and she thinks of Caleb and how he is supposed to be here. This is their place, a place that they can come and seem to block out the rest of the world and just be there, together, and nothing else matter. It is all for the best though, this absence. Obligations will get taken care of with less distraction and they will be able to lead their own lives. Angel sighs deeply as she recognizes the need for this separation yet secretly longs for a time when it might not have to be like this.
She slides out of her chair and begins to walk down the sidewalk into the night. Out of the corner of her eye she catches a glimpse of a shadowy figure that resembles his statuesque physique and she turns, hopeful, and in that brief instance her heart skips a beat at the possibility that maybe he has been near her all along. But the figure slips off into the distance and her heart slips back into reality. “It’s funny,” she thinks to herself, “how someone can make such a dramatic imprint on your life in such a short period of time.” His presence lingers long after he is gone and even his scent which she can’t actually smell seems to remain.
As she continues on her walk, a smile comes over her face as she looks at the long road that lay before her and thinks of the things that await her…just around the corner.
